The meeting of American and Russian forces in Germany during the Allied defeat of the Nazis occurred on April 25, 1945, at the Elbe River near Torgau. This historic encounter symbolized the effective collaboration between the Western Allies and the Soviet Union in the fight against Nazi Germany. Soldiers from both sides greeted each other with camaraderie, marking a significant milestone in the closing days of World War II. The meeting underscored the success of the Allies' coordinated efforts and foreshadowed the impending end of the war in Europe, leading to Germany's unconditional surrender on May 8, 1945.
