With a torn picture of his Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler, beside his clenched fist, a dead general of the Volkssturm lies on the floor of city hall in Leipzig, Germany. This general committed suicide rather than face U.S. Army troops who captured the city of Leipzig on April 19, 1945. The Fuhrer himself would commit suicide less than two weeks later, when Soviet troops reached Berlin, Germany. Click here to enlarge. |
