German troops fighting in Russia in 1941. Initially, Hitler and Stalin were allies through the German-Soviet Nonaggression Pact. However, Hitler violated this agreement. During the war, German troops were able to penetrate deep into the country of Russia. Millions upon millions of Russian soldiers and civilians lost their lives during the war. German fighting in Russia during World War II was marked by brutal and relentless warfare. Beginning with Operation Barbarossa in June 1941, Nazi Germany launched a massive invasion aimed at quickly defeating the Soviet Union. However, they encountered fierce resistance, harsh weather, and logistical challenges. Key battles, such as Stalingrad and Kursk, resulted in devastating losses for the Germans. The conflict was characterized by extreme brutality, with widespread atrocities committed against soldiers and civilians. The prolonged fighting drained German resources and manpower, ultimately contributing to the downfall of the Third Reich. |
