This photo was taken at the precise instant bullets from a French firing squad hit a Frenchman who had collaborated with the German forces that occupied France for most of the war. This particular execution took place in Rennes, France. Many Nazi collaborators met untimely ends at the hands of local citizens. Photograph by Himes, taken on November 21, 1944.
