Mary, the mother of Jesus, is venerated by
Christians, particularly Catholics. The story of her virginal
conception of Jesus is even told in the Muslim Koran. Among
Christians, there is some dispute over her virginity. Most
Protestant groups believe that she was a virgin before the birth
of Jesus, but that she perhaps went on to have more children
with her husband, Joseph. Other Christians, such as Catholics,
believe that Mary maintained her virginity throughout her life. |
