Emperor Napoleon III of France (April 20, 1808-January 9, 1873) and the Empress Eugénie (May 5, 1826-July 11, 1920)

This photograph was taken in the 1860s, and shows the costume of the period.  The nephew of Napoléon Bonaparte (Napoleon I), Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte was the first President of the French Republic.  Later, as Napoleon III, he ruled as emperor of the Second French Empire.  The empress was born Eugénie de Montijo in Granada, Spain.
