A FOUNTAIN BEARING THE MONOGRAMS OF
WILLIAM II AND ABDUL HAMID: In the ancient Hippodrome, where
the obelisk of Theodosius and the serpent of Delphi reveal
Constantinople's contact with the culture of the ancient
world; in the very shadow of Justinian's church, made a
mosque by Mohammed II, there is this fountain, which the
ex-Kaiser gave to Abdul Hamid II and in which the monograms
of the two friends appear together (Solita Solano, 1922). Click here to enlarge. |
