A GYPSY FORTUNE-TELLER: A feature of life in Constantinople is the gypsy fortune-teller from Arabia, who walks under the windows all day, crying, "I read your fortune in your hands." Many gypsies live in the ruins of the old walls, winter and summer. The cloth of which this woman's baggy trousers are made came from America (1922). Click here to enlarge. |
