Anne Boleyn was born sometime between 1501 and 1507
in England, the daughter of Thomas Boleyn, First Earl of Wiltshire, and
Lady Elizabeth Howard. Her relationship with England's King
Henry
VIII helped lead him to break with the Catholic Church and divorce his
first wife,
Catherine of Aragon. In 1533, when Anne was six months
pregnant with the future Elizabeth I, she and Henry were married. Elizabeth's birth was followed by three miscarriages. Already
courting his soon-to-be third wife, Henry had Anne imprisoned in the
Tower of London on charges of treason (the details of which included
accusations of incest with her own brother). On May 19, 1536, Anne
Boleyn was beheaded. Click
