This 19th-century engraving depicts
tourists visiting Jacob's well at Shechem. Shechem was a
considerable town of the Amorites. The land which Jacob
bought in Shechem was the first piece of property owned by the
chosen family in the promised land of Canaan. It was near
this well, reportedly dug by Jacob himself, that he built an
altar to God. Click here to enlarge. |
