| This is a swan. Swans are closely related to ducks and geese. Swans belong to the genus Cygnus. They tend to live in temperate areas. A young swan is called a swanling or cygnet. An adult female swan is called a pen. An adult male swan is called a cob. Swans are commonly white. However, some swans are black, or a mixture of black and white.
