A Career for History Lovers If your youngsters are like us, they LOVE history. However, your kids might be deterred from majoring in history at the college level because it seems like the only careers available are as history teachers and professors. The Cost of Cutting Funding for Science
and Math Programs On March 11, 2012, the New York Times ran an article on the flow of Western (largely American) academics to China. It seems that, in part because of decreased funding for the sciences, U.S. professors are relocating to Chinese universities where they receive better pay and much respect. This is great for the Chinese, but are American universities suffering as a consequence? There was a time when foreign Ph.D.s were drawn to the United States for similar reasons (as well as for academic freedom). What does this new trend say about American feelings toward intellectuals and education? This article will make for a great classroom discussion with students in grades 7-12. |
