The Soviet Union's Foreign Commissar Vyacheslav Molotov signs the German-Soviet nonaggression pact in Moscow on August 23, 1939. Joachim von Ribbentrop of Germany and Josef Stalin of the Soviet Union stand behind him. Nazi leader Adolf Hitler would eventually violate the terms of this agreement, drawing the Soviet Union into World War II. Click here to enlarge.
