Palace of Fontainebleau. Built by Francis I, who received the Emperor Charles V within its walls. Henry IV, and his son Louis XIII who was born here, made considerable additions to this famous building, one of the largest, and in the interior, one of the most sumptuous royal residences of France. It was in this palace that Louis XIV signed the paper revoking the Edict of Nantes. [Picture circa 1920.] Click here to enlarge. |
