A pillared porch overlooking Agra Fort in India.

Agra, a walled palatial city, was home to several Mugal (Mughal or Mogul) emperors, including Humayun, Akbar, Jehangir, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb. The Mugals spread Islam throughout many parts of India. As in Middle Eastern design, the Islamic prohibition against graven images resulted in artistic expression through the use of intricate and detailed geometric elements.
