Gibbons v. Ogden (1824) was a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that forbade states from enacting any legislation that would interfere with the right of the U.S. Congress to regulate commerce among the separate states. According to the Supreme Court of the United States, the federal government has the power to regulate commerce through the Commerce Clause of the Constitution. |
